The romantic comedy genre has been exhausted to death, repeating exhausted conventions and replacing the word ‘comedy’ with cheese. But every now and then, a romantic comedy comes along that surprisingly sweeps you off your feet and meets up with you years down the road for a 5th anniversary viewing. Delicacy is THE ONE.

It's a Monday...

While a synopsis would usually be included in this review, Delicacy is a film better left unsaid. As the surprises and the dramatic change of events occur with a clever and intentional reversal of the conventional, the effect of the film is best experienced with less knowledge of the plot. What I can say, however, is that the characters are an absolute delight. Coupling deeply human motivations with quirky and eccentric qualities that are almost cartoon-like, Delicacy captures humor and heart-warming romance in a simple and effective tale.
